Shanghai. Porsche and ExxonMobil have successfully concluded the Ready for What’s Next “Oil Bottle Recycling Plan” results release event, marking a significant milestone in China's first used oil bottle recycling project on 27 March, 2025. Over the past six months, more than 50,000 used Mobil 1™ oil bottles have been collected and processed using advanced mechanical recycling technologies, giving plastic waste a new lease on life.
In 2023, Porsche and ExxonMobil launched the Used Oil Bottle Recycling Plan in collaboration with Jiangsu Environment Protection Group. The project covers the entire process of collection, processing and pelleting of used oil bottles. It aims to address the recycling challenges of lubricant plastic packaging through technological innovation. The “Oil Bottle Recycling Plan” will help reduce plastic waste ending up in other end-of-life dispositions and transform plastic waste into raw materials to make valuable products. Furthermore, it provides a feasible model for the regeneration of hazardous waste in the industry.
Since its launch in March 2024, the initiative has received enthusiastic support and participation from Porsche Centres in Jiangsu Province. Over 5000 used 1-litre Mobil 1™ X Porsche oil bottles were collected from six centres. ExxonMobil, through a professional recycler team, conducted pre-treatment, crushing, rinsing, automated sorting, melting and granulating. The resulting recycled pellets were then used to produce new bottles, which were reintroduced into Porsche Centres for sale.
At the event, Swen Wucherpfennig, Vice President of After Sales at Porsche China, remarked: “This oil bottle recycling project is a key initiative driven by our shared vision with ExxonMobil for a better future. We are delighted to have our dealer partners on board, collectively reducing environmental impact.”
Mr. Richard Yue, General Manager and Director of ExxonMobil (China) Investment Co., Ltd said: “ExxonMobil focuses on creating environmental protection solutions to enhance resource and energy efficiency, reduce waste, and lower carbon emissions. As the first of its kind in China, The Ready for What’s ‘Next Oil Bottle Recycling Plan’ reflects our ‘Convert Waste to Value’ concept. This initiative marks an important step for us toward a better future.”
